INTRODUCTION
The topic for these materials, "The Earth: Matter and
Energy," has been chosen as an interdisciplinary topic which allows
collaboration between two didactic areas in secondary education: Social
studies and Science. These materials
help students develop a basic understanding of energy by describing everyday
examples of energy use and how energy is produced together with different
aspects related to energy such as energy and matter, energy and society and
energy and history.
The energy and its social and
political impact is an important object of study in secondary school.
Students will learn about the
history of the energy from the Industrial Revolution in eighteen century,
the different energy resources and their environmental
impact. They will also deal with the social and
political impact of energy, detailing the importance of energy when
distinguishing developed and underdeveloped countries,
and specifying the purposes of the energy in politics in general and in the
different political conflicts in particular.
Finally, they will become aware of the mpact of energy on the climate
and the environment.
Each module includes diferent sections such as an
introductory section with written and oral texts followed by tasks related to
the topic of each section. Web-based activities and tasks help student's
develop their ICT skills and their skills when using the Internet as a
reserach tool and a source of information. Consolidating interactive
activities are also included throughout the modules.
