The Iscte International Staff Week provides an international and interdisciplinary space for higher education staff to reflect on well being, sustainability and urban challenges shaping contemporary universities and cities, recognizinguniversities as
key actors within complex urban ecosystems.
Through presentations, interactive activities, panels and peer exchange, participants will explore how institutional practices, campus environments and its ecosystem can address pressing urban challenges, promoting well-being and sustainability.
The programme encourages critical reflection on current challenges in higher education and promotes the sharing of experience and good practices:
- Contribute to SGD 11 by promoting reflection on how higher education institutions can foster inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable campuses and cities through well being centred and socially responsible practices.
- Support more effective responses to societal and urban challenges by strengthening a digital education ecosystem that enhances skills development, critical thinking and digital literacy across sectors and communities.
By combining professional development, intercultural dialogue and informal networking, the staff week aims to strengthen cooperation among institutions and urban stakeholders contributing to more human centred, resilient and sustainable universities within their broader urban environments.
Objectives:
- To promote reflection and dialogue on student and staff well being in higher education.
- To share good practices on how universities can address urban challenges as active and engaged actors within their cities.
- To inspire institutions to integrate well being focused and sustainability oriented approaches into their strategies and daily practices.
- To strengthen Erasmus+ institutional cooperation and staff networks in response to shared societal and urban challenges.

Alianza Europea de Universidades PIONEER para apoyar el desarrollo de ciudades inclusivas, seguras, resilientes y sostenibles
En el año 2022 la Universidad de Huelva se unió a la Alianza Europea de Universidades PIONEER para alcanzar el objetivo estratégico de crear una Universidad Europea en el marco de la convocatoria Erasmus + lanzada por la Comisión Europea.
Esta alianza está coordinada por la Universidad Gustave Eiffel, en Francia, y reúne a diez universidades localizadas en diferentes áreas geográficas (Francia, España, Italia, Portugal, Holanda, Alemania, Finlandia, República Checa, Eslovaquia y Suiza). Todas las universidades queremos con este proyecto fortalecer nuestra identidad europea, fomentar la excelencia y aumentar nuestra competitividad.. La Alianza PIONEER tiene como objetivo conformar un futuro de ciudades inclusivas, seguras, sostenibles y resilientes, proporcionando a los estudiantes competencias específicas en un entorno europeo.
En la Alianza de Universidades Europeas PIONEER estamos trabajando para crear un proyecto centrado en una estrecha colaboración en el campo de la educación, ciencia e investigación y cocreación con los ecosistemas en los que las universidades están inmersas, siempre con el objetivo de contribuir al desarrollo de ciudades inclusivas, seguras, resilientes y sostenibles. Esta iniciativa pretende fortalecer y estructurar de forma firme la cooperación entre instituciones de educación superior a lo largo de Europa y formar una nueva generación de europeos capaces de trabajar en entornos culturales diversos.
Estamos orgullosos de formar parte de esta alianza y muy ilusionados con este viaje transformador, en el que trabajaremos mano a mano con importantes instituciones europeas para crear un impacto duradero en la educación superior europea. Estamos convencidos de que , juntos, llegaremos más lejos, y contribuiremos de forma más definitiva a que las nuevas generaciones de europeos estén más preparados y dispongan de las habilidades y conocimientos necesarios para afrontar los retos globales que no pueden dejar de preocuparnos.
Este proyecto forma parte de la estrategia de internacionalización de la UHU y se perfila como uno de los proyectos más transformadores. PIONEER supondrá nuevas oportunidades para todas las personas de la comunidad universitaria, si bien los estudiantes están en el centro del mismo. Este proyecto pretende que los estudiantes estén cada vez mejor capacitados para convertirse en los futuros expertos y líderes con el conocimiento y las capacidades necesarias para tener éxito en el siglo XXI que vivimos, y las herramientas profesionales que les permitirán apoyar e impulsar el desarrollo sostenible a nivel regional, nacional y global.
PIONEER European Alliance of Universities to support the development of inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities
In 2022 the University of Huelva joined the European Alliance of Universities PIONEER to achieve the strategic objective of creating an European University within the framework of the Erasmus+ call launched by the European Commission.
This alliance is coordinated by Gustave Eiffel University, in France, and it brings together ten universities located in different geographical areas (France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Holland, Germany, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland). With this project, all universities want to strengthen our European identity, promote excellence and increase our competitiveness. The PIONEER Alliance aims to shape a future of inclusive, safe, sustainable and resilient cities, providing students with specific skills in a European environment.
At the Alliance of European Universities PIONEER we are working to create a project focused on close collaboration in the field of education, science and research and co-creation with the ecosystems in which universities are immersed, always with the aim of contributing to the development of inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities. This initiative aims to strengthen and firmly structure cooperation between higher education institutions across Europe and to train a new generation of Europeans capable of working in diverse cultural environments.
We at the UHU are proud to be part of this alliance and very excited about this transformative journey, in which we will work hand in hand with important European institutions to create a lasting impact on European higher education. We are convinced that, together, we will go further, and we will contribute more definitively to ensuring that new generations of Europeans are more trained and have the necessary skills and knowledge to face the global challenges that we should be worried about.
This project is part of the UHU's internationalization strategy and is emerging as one of the most transformative projects ever. PIONEER will mean new opportunities for everyone in the university community, although students are at the center of it. This project aims to ensure that students are increasingly better trained to become future experts and leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century we live in, and the professional tools that will allow them to support and promote sustainable development throughout the world. regional, national and global level.
