The creation, design and implementation of this MSc is not only a product of the general and increasing demand for qualified staff to work in the field of RPAS, but it is also a response to some necessities arisen inside the environment of creation of the MSc itself. That is, the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), together with the Agency of Innovation and Development of Andalusia (IDEA) and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO), supported by FEDER fund of the European Union, are erecting the Centre of Excellence of Unmanned Air Systems (CEUS), which will be building in Huelva medium and large scale RPAS. This Centre is meant to be one of the most advanced in its category in the world and a referent at a European level, which presents a high potential in the fields of training, research, project gaining and business opportunities with administrations and companies. CEUS will integrate in the aeronautical sector which is a booming sector in western Andalusia (it is already a taken as a reference on an international level), and this fact will create an urgent need for professionals specialized in the field of the RPAS, need which will be satisfied by our MSc.
Moreover, CEUS is the best field of experimentation, research, standardization, kitemarks, certifications, qualifications and value enhancement strategy of RPAS in actual environments, which provides the MSc with unique field work facilities on an international level.
The RPAS are spreading their range of application, offering services and performances which were thought to be impossible until now: suborbital satellite systems, radio contact and long distance systems, infrastructures surveys, atmospheric research, topography, risks and natural disasters managements, detection and assistance at fires, environmental control, wild life research, location of shoals, monitoring of electric power transport network, accurate cultivation and farming, security and defense, etc. It is also remarkable that RPAS are becoming essential tools regarding leisure, entertaining and culture: historic monuments exploration, movies filming, sport photographs, hunt monitoring, etc.
Besides all the above mentioned, the RPAS are fomenting the development of some supplementary technologies, not necessarily regarding the aeronautical field, and they are getting basic for their development: communications, propulsion, energy, sensors, telemetry, etc. A very clear example is the one of the fuel cells, whose development and application to RPAS are allowing the increasing of their flight autonomy expectations.
