The Master’s in Biodiversity Conservation provides specialized education with a strong practical component in biological diversity and species conservation, addressing the current knowledge of biodiversity at different levels of organization. It covers both basic and applied approaches using the latest techniques (GIS, remote sensing, molecular genetics, advanced statistics, etc.). The ultimate goal is to equip students with the most advanced practical and conceptual tools for immediate professional performance, either in research or management, in both public administration and any entity or company involved in biodiversity conservation and restoration projects.
It is aimed at university graduates in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Geology, Chemistry, Veterinary Science, Marine Sciences, Forestry Engineers, Agricultural Engineers, Industrial Engineers, and Chemists. Graduates in Social Sciences and Law interested in developing their professional activity in any of the many aspects of Conservation Biology can also take the master’s program by completing the specific training adapted to each case. In all cases, a minimum of naturalistic and biological knowledge, as well as an interest in issues arising from the current environmental crisis, is recommended. Basic computer skills, as well as general mathematical and statistical principles, are equally important.
Career Opportunities: Research and development activities in Public Research Organizations, as well as in private entities and companies, will be the main destination for graduates of the master’s program. This will enable students to achieve the level of accredited experts in Conservation Biology and facilitate their incorporation into doctoral programs. Additionally, the job market for graduates in the master’s program offers numerous employment opportunities, including environmental administration (Environmental Departments and related entities, Provincial Delegations, protected natural areas, state and local administration, etc.); environmental consulting firms, especially environmental consultants; the environmental education sector, both private and public; environmental NGOs and their need for highly qualified personnel; other environmental companies in biotechnology or analysis, both laboratory and territorial or engineering; etc.
